The first appointment will usually involve:
- Discussion of any concerns and needs that you may have.
- Taking a case history of relevant details.
- Assessment of the child or young person's communication strengths and difficulties through structured games and play with toys, and more 'formal' standardised speech and language assessments, (often based on picture books).
There will then be discussion of the therapist's findings, and advice and ideas given about how best to help and possible strategies to use.
Whether further therapy input is appropriate will also be discussed and a course of action can be agreed upon.
A written report will be provided following the first appointment, including recommendations and strategies, if required.
